PEDICure
Prevention
Strengthen protective conditions, shared understanding, relationships and environments before difficulties escalate.
How NEXIE Works
NEXIE provides a repeatable method for understanding changes in capacity and choosing a safer, more useful response.
Understanding Before Intervention.01 · Why capacity changes
A person may communicate, learn, regulate, participate or perform differently across situations and over time. Capacity is not explained by one trait, behaviour or score.
NEXIE looks at the person in context and asks what may be influencing access to their existing strengths and capabilities.
Relationships, environment and experience interact with individual developmental patterns over time.
Capacity-in-context model
02 · The NEXIE Method
PEDICure is the core NEXIE methodology used to move from protective conditions and shared understanding to proportionate response and reflective correction.
PEDICure
Strengthen protective conditions, shared understanding, relationships and environments before difficulties escalate.
PEDICure
Build knowledge of the person, development, individual difference, stress, relationships, communication and environment.
PEDICure
Notice patterns and changes without treating observation as diagnosis, proof of causation or a fixed label.
PEDICure
Choose a proportionate response, referral or specialist support within the applicable role and scope.
PEDICure
Review and correct the fit of the plan, environment or response. Correction means reflective improvement—not punishment.
03 · MyNEXIE journey
MyNEXIE is a future personal and family-facing continuity layer. Its digital journey helps useful understanding carry forward over time.
The platform supports the Method. It is not the Method.
04 · Trauma-informed principles
NEXIE does not assume every difficulty is caused by trauma and does not diagnose trauma from behaviour.
It recognises that past or current adversity may influence responses and prioritises safety, trust, choice, collaboration, respect, avoiding unnecessary escalation, recognising stress responses and supporting participation.
We do not have to know everything that happened to someone to avoid making the situation less safe.
05 · Prevention
Understand parenting history, stress responses, expectations, communication and relational patterns.
Create predictable, relationally safe and developmentally responsive environments.
Create conditions where difference is understood before difficulties are automatically treated as performance failure.
06 · Relational repair and the 6Rs
The canonical NEXIE Six Rs provide a structured reflective process when conflict, harm, dysregulation or misunderstanding occurs.
Repair requires us to understand more than our own perspective.
Empathy is central to Respect: it creates room for another person's experience without erasing our own.
What happened?
What happened inside me?
What needs to be understood and honoured, including the other person's perspective and relational impact?
Empathy and perspective-taking sit within Respect. What else may be true or possible?
What am I learning about my part, the other person's experience and the conditions around the situation?
How can the response, relationship or conditions be redesigned for a safer and more constructive pathway?
07 · Information and understanding
NEXIE may draw on relevant information to develop a fuller understanding of the person and their context.
These sources are inputs. They are not the NEXIE method itself.
Information can help us understand the person. NEXIE provides the process for applying that understanding.
No single assessment, profile or report defines the whole person.
08 · Different settings
Understand each person’s identity, role, history and patterns. Use NEXIE to respond when conflict or dysregulation occurs.
Understand what affects learning capacity and participation before choosing a teaching, relational or environmental response.
Use existing information about strengths, contribution, working preferences and individual difference where appropriately available. Ask what conditions help the person contribute, what happens when capacity changes, whether role, relationships, communication, stress or environment are contributing, and what response is safest and most constructive.
Use NEXIE to support safe response, reflection, referral and coordinated planning within professional scope.
09 · ACEs and protective conditions
NEXIE does not use ACE scores to diagnose people or predict individual outcomes. It focuses on conditions that can support safer, healthier functioning.
The aim is not to measure how damaged a person is. The aim is to strengthen the conditions that support safety, recovery and capacity.
10 · Specialist support
Some concerns require clinical, safeguarding or specialist intervention. NEXIE supports understanding and response within scope; it does not replace qualified assessment, clinical treatment or safeguarding processes.
Where complexity remains, ARINI or another appropriately qualified professional may contribute recommendations to ongoing support.
Explore Specialist Support ↗11 · My NEXIE · in development
My NEXIE is the developing digital environment intended to retain context, begin a NEXIE cycle, record supports, follow a plan, reflect after difficulty, review progress and share an appropriate summary.
The app should help people use NEXIE repeatedly, rather than generating a new report every time something changes.
The app supports the process. It does not replace the person, practitioner, professional judgement or specialist care.
The complete architecture
PEDICure provides the core cycle: Prevention, Education, Detection, Intervention and Correction.
Notice, Understand, Respond, Reflect and Carry Forward describes a future digital journey—not a separate method.
How safety, trust, choice, collaboration, respect and participation shape the response.
How people reflect after conflict, harm, dysregulation or misunderstanding.
How support extends beyond scope and how My NEXIE carries learning across time.
Understanding Before Intervention
NEXIE exists to turn understanding into safer, more useful action.
